metal nanoparticles have strikingly different properties than do their macroscopic (big) counterparts. for example, gold metal is ... well, gold. but at a certain particle size it will become red. this happens in many other metals. light waves interact differently with the eletrons in metals if the metal particles are very small. 

there is a picotech, as well as a femtotech and attotech, but none of these will ever correspond to spatial dimensions because an atom is only on the order of picometers. (have a look at some atomic radii on wikipedia). atoms have no interesting properties that haven&#039;t been seen before (most atoms have been thoroughly studied in the gas phase 50 years ago).

femtosecond lasers are ultrafast lasers that provide many interesting phenomena for example. attojoule is a very very small amount of work done. again, neither of these involve the spatial dimension that you&#039;re asking about though.</description>
